forest folk collective
2017/2018 FOREST FOLK COLLECTIVE is a group of families who are passionate about being in the wild outdoors. Learning, playing, reflecting, connecting. Loosely based on the "FOREST SCHOOL" concept, our collective includes children of mixed ages (currently about 15 children ages 2 - 12.) Our collective is designed to invigorate and allow our families to lead more balanced lives , learn practical skills and connect more deeply with ourselves and the wonders of Nature. the forest folk school concept is carefully designed to offer children a year round safe and creative woodland environment to build confidence, experience freedom and connect more deeply with the Earth. Realms of discovery include bushcraft and survival skills, edible and medicinal plants, earth arts, traditional crafts and listening to the spirit of the woods . . . .- 2017é2018 calendar: September - Plant Dyes and Nature Journals - Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area October - Yoga and Nature Connection - Homesteadiness Project, Seeley's Bay November - Forge and Fire (Blacksmithing) - Godfrey Sculpture Park December - Bow Making and Tree Decorating - Round Lake January - Trees and Snow - Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area February - Ice Fishing - Gilmour's Point (Battersea) March - Tap, Sap and Map - Burbrook Rd. What does a day with the forest folk collective look like? Our days are about feeling free to play, explore, and connect with the wonders of Nature. There are currently 6 - 8 wonderful families who participate regularly. Others come and go monthly as they are able. Adults hold space for emergent play and subsequent learning. . . as well as taking turns leading a monthly focus. We collectively take turns offering infusions of forest theatre, earth arts and crafts, bushcraft skills such as working with ropes, knots, shelters and tools, and opportunities for deeper excursions, meditations and music. Fire building and making stone soup and tea are weekly activities, experimenting with cooking over coals and roasting snacks. We alternate looking after the Tinies (ages 2 - 6) and have age appropriate activities indoors for them in cold weather. a flexible schedule to the day will look like this: 10- Arrival and Hike to Base Camp 10:30 - Circle and Focus groups 12:30ish Lunch and Check In 1:00 Optional Activities/Unstructured play families are free to stay if they will or go if they must . . . With the Forest Folk Collective, we strive to create a compassionate and inclusive social environment which means that everyone is always looking out for and taking care of one another. Everyone is included in our work and games and no one gets left behind |
